Women and Men’s Team Place 3rd at Ontario Seniors

St. Catharines, ON – Members of the Mustang wrestling team travelled to Brock on Saturday to participate in the Senior Ontario Championships. Despite travelling with a small group, the Mustangs had an outstanding performance. Both teams placed third in their respective divisions, and the Mustangs took second in the combined standings.

Five Mustangs brought home medals. Freshman Treye Trotman won his third consecutive gold in as many weeks. Competing in the 57kg division, Treye beat a formidable opponent from Michigan in the final to claim the gold.

London, ON – The Mustangs Wrestling brought the action to their home turf as they hosted the Western Open in Alumni Hall on Sunday.

The Men’s team finished 3rd overall, collections three individual medals led by Gavin Eldridge winning the 61kg division. This is the second weekend in a row that Eldridge has won gold.

“Gavin wrestled well all day. A few of his matches were close at the beginning, but Gavin maintained an aggressive pace and was able to wear his opponents down and secure the wins,” said Mustangs Head Coach Scott Proctor.

Other men medalists include Brayden Ambo at 90kg and Thomas Fortier at 100kg, both winning silver medals.

Ella Doornaert led the women to a fourth-place team finish. Doornaert won gold in the 63kg division.

Other medalists for the Women’s team were Paige Baynham, who won silver at 72kg and Sydney Clavet, who won bronze at 56kg.

Next up for the Mustangs is the Western Invitational on Sunday, March 20th, in Alumni Hall starting at 9:30 a.m. This will be the final competition for Mustangs before the OUA championships at Brock on April 2nd.

We continue to see the team growing as a whole and individual athletes constantly developing as the season progresses,” noted assistant coach Madi Parks.
