February 4, 5, 2012 (St. Catharines)

Fifteen members of the London-Western Wrestling Club competed this past weekend at the 2012 Cadet/Juvenile Provincial Championships in St. Catharines, Ontario.

The first day saw a strong showing by the team, with 10 reaching the semi-finals in impressive fashion.

Brandon Ross attacks with the leg takedown and won the bronze in the 58 kg Juvenile division.

The final day was highlighted by 4 finalists, 10 medals and 1 additional top 6 placing.

Winning her first Provincial title was Alyssa Medeiros (see photo below) who pinned her final opponent in under 25 seconds of the first round. Alyssa has reached a level of confidence on the mat that will surely continue her momentum towards a national title. Congratulations to all team members who competed!

Age-group practices resume at Western Tuesday January 10 and will follow regular practice times — 6:30-8:00 pm.

Anna McKee was selected to represent Ontario at the Stu Hart Trip in Vancouver Jan 4-8/12.  She will compete in a series of dual-meets against high schools and teams from B.C. and Saskatchewan.  So far, Anna has won all her matches (4).

Brampton, ON (December 10, 2011)

London-Western team members did well at the Matmen Classic winning four medals and also placing four in the top six in their individual weight divisions.  Carissa Holland won gold defeating Meghan Kingsbury of Mariposa in the 57 kg girls final.  Anna McKee placed 2nd in the 51 kg girls Open divsion as did CCH teammate Kyle Bonk who took silver in the 92 kg Boys Open division.  Anna lost to Alyssa Cleaves of New Brunswick.  Alyssa Medeiros took the bronze in the 54 kg Girls Open over Lidia Congdon.  Coach, Andrew Ross said, ” ….. (there were) some tough matches that were good to get in early in the year.”

         : Note –meals and accommodations ($35 a night) are extra (except  for lunch Saturday) and the responsibility of participants.
