London-Western is pleased to announce that Matt Cameron will be coaching with the Age-Group Program starting September 2010. Matt is no stranger to London-Western, previously as an assistant coach and a past team member.  Matt has also coached at Beal S.S., and Catholic Central H.S. where he will continue to coach.  Matt is enrolled at Fanshawe College in the Child and Youth Work Program.

Age-Group Practices will start Tuesday September 28.  6:30-8:00 pm.   Alumni Hall, room 15 lower level.

Tuesday’s & Thursday’s 6:30-8:00 pm.

Practices will be held up to August 19th followed by a break until the new season starts in September.

The last week of practices will be:

Mon Aug 16th:  5-6:30 pm, Tue Aug 17th:   6:30-8:00 pm, Wed Aug 18th:  5-6:30 pm, Thu Aug 18th:  6:30-8:00 pm.

The Western varsity team and senior practices will commence Monday September 13th 5:30 pm. 

London-Western’s Age-Group Program will start Tuesday September 28 at 6:30 pm.

There will be no practice on Monday, August 2 due to the Civic Holiday.  Practice will resume Tuesday, Aug 3 regular time 6:30 pm.

London-Western’s Brian Cowan won the bronze medal at the FILA Cadet Pan American Wrestling Championships, July 18, 2010.  The Dorchester S.S. student defeated  Luis Pinto (BRA) by pin to secure the bronze medal in the 46 kg weight class.   Brian lost to Julio Zuleta (ECU) who won the gold, and Robinson Rios (PER) who took the silver.

Brian Cowan will compete at the FILA Cadet Pan American Wrestling Championships in Manaus, Brazil, July 18, 2010.  The Dorchester S.S. student will compete in the 46 kg weight class.  Brian recently won the Pre-Junior Canada Cup, July 4, 2010.  London-Western coach Ray Takahashi was selected as a member of the coaching staff with James Messenger (Port Alberni, BC).  Cowan and Takahashi will depart July 14.

Australian wrestler, Carissa Holland will re-visit London-Western, June 22-July 30, 2010.  Carissa will compete in the Pre-Junior Canada Cup (U18) July 4 and stay with members of the London-Western Wrestling Club while in London.  She recently won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Youth Championships (Singapore) in January 2010 and came to London to train for several weeks after the tournament.

The London-Western Awards Picnic will be held at the Cowan’s, Sunday June 13 at 1:00 pm.  All members are invited to attend.  The informal picnic will be a pot-luck.  Directions posted soon.

Three members of the London-Western Wrestling Club attended the Canada East Wrestling Championships in St. Stephen’s, New Brunswick, and all three brought back medals.
