London-Western teammates, Owen and Laura

Siblings Mason and Jessica Roberts both won gold in their respective weight classes overcoming difficult opponents. Laura Jacobson displayed fantastic technique and skill against her opponents, earning her a first place finish. The performance of the day belonged to Owen Bisschop who defeated all four of his opponents by PIN earning him a gold medal as well. Channin George lost a controversial first match but was able to overcome it and wrestled well in his other matches fighting his way back to a second place finish.  Ryan Howald, a first year bantam battled his way through his weight class and had an extremely tough final match coming just shy of a gold, finishing second. Donovan McQuaid, also a first year bantam, made it to the final of his weight class. He was ahead in his match with an excellent head and arm but was unlucky when he was rerolled and caught for a pin.  Younger sister, Madison McQuaid, competed in her second wrestling tournament of her career and was inspirational on her way to a silver medal.

Several of these athletes will attend the Canada East Wrestling Festival in St. Stephen’s, N.B., May 7, 2010.
