Steven Takahashi wins Commonwealth Games Trials

Former Western Mustang wrestler and current assistant coach Steven Takahashi won the Commonwealth Games Trials at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C. on Friday. With the victory Steven has earned the right to represent Canada at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia in April 2018.

Steven was a perfect 3-0 on the day. His first two wins came against wrestlers from Brock Wrestling Club. In the finals Takahashi wrestled Aso Palani of Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club. Palani was the 2017 National Champion.  Steven defeated Aso 4-1 to win the trials and earn his spot on the Commonwealth Team.

Steven also competed in the SFU international tournament the following day, coming away with another first place finish. The final saw Takahashi facing Palani once again. Steven beat Palani 3-1 to claim gold and cap off a very successful weekend.
