Going to the Mat for Wrestling
A Panel Discussion on the Status of Olympic Wrestling
The Western Mustangs, in conjunction with the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association, are proud to host a panel discussion on the status and future of Olympic Wrestling on Wednesday, February 27 at 5:00 p.m. on the Western University Campus.
Media and the public are invited to attend this panel discussion that will examine the current and future wrestling landscape in light of the recent decision by the International Olympic Committee to remove wrestling from the Olympic sport program in 2020.
Panelists include Caroline Assalian, the Chief Sport Officer for the Canadian Olympic Committee, Tamara Medwidsky, Executive Director for the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association, Dr. Bob Barney, Professor Emeritus at Western’s International Centre for Olympic Studies, as well as coach and athlete representatives. The moderator for the event will be former Sun Media and Globe and Mail sports editor David Langford.
The panel is being presented as part of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Wrestling Championships that will take place March 1-2 at Western’s Alumni Hall.
