Mustangs win at Greater Toronto Open

The mustang men’s and women’s team won the overall team titles at the Greater Toronto Open Wrestling Tournament. The Men’s team finished first ahead of Brock and Guelph who placed 2^nd and 3^rd respectively.

The Men’s team was lead by veterans Eric Jacobson (82 KG) and Ameed Lakhani (54 KG) both who came second in their respective weight classes. First year mustang, Matt Jagas continued his strong start to the season picking up his second medal in as many weeks by winning a silver medal at 68 kg.  Teammate, Shawn Wheatley placed second in the 90 KG division.  Three mustangs won bronze medals – Will Rounthwaite (72 KG), Sammy Hanna (76 KG), and Scott Wheatley (82 KG).

The Women’s team won the team title on the strength of three gold Medals. Second year wrestlers Valerie Ouellette and Andrea Wakelin along with 4th year wrestler Christine Schmidt all placed first in their respective weight classes.  Second year mustang, Cassie Leigh (48KG) won a silver medal with a record of 3-1. Winning bronze medals for the mustangs were rookies, Lindsay Whiting and Alyssa Medeiros at 51kG and 55 KG respectively.
