2 Medals at Adrian Women’s Open

Adrian Michigan – Three Mustang Wrestlers traveled to Adrian Michigan on the weekend to compete at the Adrian Women’s Open at Adrian College. Christine Grafe, Julie Steffler and Michalia Walls competed at the event which was the first tournament of the season for the Mustangs.

Christine Grafe (1-1) placed second at 101 lbs, losing in the finals to Angela Gomes from Emmanuel College, GA who is a 3-time state champion.

Julie Steffler placed second at 130 lbs with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss. Julie lost in the finals to Abigail Netter also from Emmanuel College, GA. Abigail won the U-23 World team trials for the USA and will represent them at the U-23 worlds in November. This was Julies first tournament in over a year after recovering from her second ACL surgery during last season.

Michalia Walls placed 4th at 136lbs. Michalia wrestled five matches on Saturday and had a record of 3 wins and 2 losses. She lost a tough first match to a wrestler from King University, Tennessee who was a state champion, but came back to win 3 straight matches scoring 41 points and picking up two pins and a technical superiority in those three matches.

Next up for the Mustangs is the McMaster Invitational on Nov. 3rd.
