Toronto, ON – The Mustangs saw six of their wrestlers end up on the podium this weekend as they travelled to Toronto on Sunday to compete in the Rams Open.

For the second weekend in a row, Paige Baynham came home with a gold medal. Baynham won all three of her matches by pin and without giving up a point against her.

“Paige wrestled well; she used her double leg takedown very successfully in her matches to score points and get her opponents to the mat, where she was able to use her strong ground technique to pin all three of her opponents,” note head coach Scott Proctor.

Two first-year wrestlers had impressive tournaments. Gavin Eldridge, competing at 61kg, won a silver medal, while 2nd-year wrestler Kendall Dettloff picked up a bronze medal in her first tournament as a Mustang.

“Both Kendall and Gavin wrestled well, and both showed a lot of determination and toughness in their first University tournament. It was nice to see them both bring home a medal, and we are excited for their futures here at Western,” said Proctor. “Overall, it was a good tournament for us; we collected some medals and some good wins. Our athletes got some matches which is valuable at this time of year, as we continue to look to build on our success and improve”.

The next event for the Mustangs is the York Open on Sunday, Nov. 21st.
