Brianne Barry wins Outstanding Athlete
Western University Athletic Awards Gala, London Convention Centre (Wednesday April 2, 2014)
Brianne Barry was selected as the top female athlete at Western for 2013-14. She was awarded the F.W.P. Jones Trophy awarded to the top female athlete “… who in the opinion of the Selection Committee has made the Greatest Contribution to Intercollegiate Athletics with the University.” Brianne set a record of winning 5 OUA Championship titles and was named the most outstanding wrestler in both the OUA & CIS Championships this past season.
The last wrestler to win the F.W.P. Jones Award was Terri McNutt in 2005-06.
Several other awards were acknowledged during the evening, including the Purple Blanket Award to Larissa D’Alleva. Larissa captured 4 OUA titles and 3 CIS silver medals during her 5 years at Western. She has 6 National level medals and has placed first in 17 individual tournaments. The Purple Blanket is given “to student-athletes who achieved superior distinction at the Provincial/National level of competition as representatives of Western.”
