Gold for Abelev and Takahashi

CIS Wrestling Championships, Alumni Hall, London (March 1, 2, 2013)

Ilya Abelev won the 72 kg CIS title — his 3rd at the three different weight classes. Ilya defeated 2-time defending champion, Ryan Myrfield (Sask) in the final to help the mustangs to a 3rd place overall team placing.  Teammate, Steven Takahashi won the 54 kg division, also his 3rd title at 54 kg.  Kevin Ens pinned Chadd Lee (LU) in the 90 kg final to win the bronze, while Josh Proctor put in a strong effort to place 4th at 68 kg.  The men’s team place 3rd overall with 49 points, 2 pts behind BRO and AB who won the team title with 52 points.

Brianne Barry was the top woman settling for the silver at 55 kg while Larissa D’Alleva took 4th at 63 kg.   The women’s team tied with SASK with 29 points behind top three teams, Brock (54 pts), AB (45 pts) and CAL (38 pts).
