Women win OUA Team title

OUA Wrestling Championships, February 15, 2014 (Tait McKenzie Building, York Univeristy, Toronto)

The mustang women won the OUA team championship title with 3 individual golds and three silvers.  Anna McKee was named “Rookie of the Year,” while senior and co-captain, Brianne Barry was voted the OUA’s “Most Outstanding Wrestler.”  Brianne was also named OUA Athlete of the Week — see:  http://www.westernmustangs.ca/news/2014/2/18/WREST_0218144435.aspx

The mustangs edged defending champions, Brock, by 2 points (62-60 pts) in an exciting final with four head-to-head matches that were split 2-2.  The mustangs clinched the title, when Catholic Central graduate,  Anna McKee pinned Brock’s Jessica Brouillette at 59 kg followed by Larissa D’Alleva’s victory by pin over Brittney Gearing.

Valerie Ouellette had 3 solid wins at 51 kg to secure her the silver medal.  Madi Parks placed 2nd at 48 kg, as did Clarke Road S.S. graduate, Christine Schmidt at 72 kg.

Anna McKee won Gold in the 59 kg weight class and was named OUA Rookie of the Year.

Men’s team qualify 5 to CIS Championships with 3 silver and 2 bronze.

The men’s team had 3 individual silver medals and two bronze finishing 4th overall.

Alec Bauer lifts Jake Jagas (GUE) in the 76 kg final.  Bauer scored on the takedown, but Jagas won the gold
