Busy weekend for Mustangs with Junior Provincials and Western Open
It was a busy weekend for the mustangs as they hosted two events in Alumni Hall. The first event was the Ontario Junior championships (U 20) held on Saturday. The event attracted wrestlers from all across Ontario. The Mustangs had 8 wrestlers compete at the provincial championship. 1st year Mustang Ella Doornaert led the for the team winner the silver medal in the 57kg division. Another first year Mustang Hassan Al-Hayawi picked up a bronze medal in the 65kg division. 2nd year western wrestler Adam Pacyga also won a bronze in the 79kg. Rounding out the top six placings for the Mustangs were; 4th David Kumar 70kg. 4th Jennifer Nwamadi 82kg, and 5th Cat Blair 65kg. Hunter Tandy a member of the London-Western Wrestling Club placed 4th at 79kg.
On Sunday Western hosted the annual Western Open. Christine Grafe, a fourth-year wrestler, had an outstanding tournament placing 2nd in the 48kg division. Mackenzie Smallwood placed 3rd at 51kg. Jackson Browning collected a silver medal. Browning was unable to wrestle his final due to an injury. Next up is the OUA championships at Guelph on Saturday February 2nd.
