Steffler, Walls Strike Gold at York Open

Toronto – The Western Wrestling team continued their season on Saturday competing in the York Open held at York University. The Women’s team had a strong showing placing second overall with 26 points, just behind Brock with 29. The Women’s team was led by two individual winners, Julie Steffler and Michalia Walls. Julie wrestling in the 59kg division went a perfect 4-0 to take the gold. In her first match of the tournament she beat Hannah Taylor of Brock University, last year’s USports National Champion, 5-5 on criteria. Michalia picked up 3 wins on her way to the gold medal, her 3^rd medal of the season, in the 63kg division. Ella Doornaert narrowly missed out on the podium placing 4^th in the 55kg weight class. Next up for the Mustangs are the Senior Provincial Championships taking place in Hamilton on Saturday November 24^th.
