Abelev Earns his Gold — Ontario Senior Championships

The mustangs, representing London-Western placed 3rd overall in team standings at the Senior Provincial Wrestling Championships in St. Catharines.
The men’s team was led by Ilya Abelev (66 kg) and Steven Takahashi (55 kg) who both won gold in their respective divisions.
Abelev won an exciting final versus Brock’s CJ Hudson which Abelev won in two straight rounds.
The victory wasn’t easy for Abelev, who lost to Hudson in a repeat of last year’s final. The officials seemed to miss a call near the end of the 2nd round which would have secured a certain win for the 2nd year mustang. And, then, the officials waived off the victory when Abelev scored just before the buzzer by upholding Brock’s protest. The round was restarted in a sudden-victory “clinch” which saw Abelev take Hudson down for the well-earned victory.
