Mustangs compete at Home Tournament — Western Open

The wrestling mustangs took four individual medals at their home tournament in Alumni Hall. Three men won individual medals to lead the men’s team to a third place tie in varsity standings with U of Calgary with 24 points, behind Guelph (46 points) and second place, McMaster (27 points). Mustang, Jordan Swail was the top mustang who won the silver (61 kg) while the Wheatley brothers, Scott (82 kg) and Shawn (90 kg) both placed third.

In the women’s division, Liz Sera took the bronze at 55 kg defeating teammate, Jennifer Nguyen who settled for fourth. London-Western teammate Olivia Gunnell won bronze at 59 kg. The women’s team did not break the top three in team standings which was won by the University of Saskatchewan (30 points) followed by Brock (25 points) and Lakehead (15 points).
Several team members did not compete due to the conflict with the Provincial Junior (U20) Wrestling Championships held the same day in Hamilton where the men’s team, representing the London-Western Wrestling Club, won the overall team title. The women placed third overall.
