Larissa D’Alleva and Katie Patroch win gold at the prestigious Canada Cup

July 2, 3, 2011 (Guelph)

Larissa D’Alleva and Katie Patroch both won gold at the Canada Cup of International Wrestling.  D’Alleva, a member of the national junior (U20) team, won three matches in the 63 kg division, as did Patroch which included a victory over former Londoner and CCH grad, Andrea Ross who placed 2nd and now represents the Calgary Wrestling Club.  Mustangs, Brianne Barry and Liz Sera placed 4th and 5th respectively in the 55 kg division.

In the men’s division, mustang, Ilya Abelev placed 2nd dropping a close decision to Guelph’s Ryan Lue in the 66 kg final.  Mustang teammate, Steven Takahashi was forced to pull out due to injury after losing to B.C.’s Frank Mensa who placed 2nd at 55 kg.  The lower body injury to Takahashi prevented him from attending the Canada Cup camp that followed the tournament that featured over 180 top wrestlers from across the country.

In the Pre-Junior Division, Brian Cowan defeated brother, Adam in the 50 kg final.  Teammate, Brandon Ross placed 3rd at 54 kg.
