2010 CIS WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

CALGARY (CIS) – The Western Mustangs women placed third in the team category at the 2010 CIS Wrestling Championships hosted by the Calgary Dinos March 5-6.

The Mustangs women finished with 37 points, the top Ontario team, behind Simon Fraser (56) and host Calgary (54).

Western’s one-man team, represented by Eric Jacobson, placed 13th overall with five points after finishing fourth in the 72kg.  The Dorchester S.S. graduate lost the bronze medal match that went 3 rounds to Arminder Virdi of SFU 0-5, 1-0, 1-3.

Freshman Brianne Barry (London, Ont.) won silver at the 55-kg division, while fellow rookie  Larissa D’Alleva (Prince Albert, Ont.) also won silver at 63kg. Liz Sera (Winnipeg) won bronze at 59 kg.  Teammates, Sahana Mazumder (48 kg), Jennifer Archibald (67 kg), Christine Schmidt (72 kg), all placed 6th in their respective divisions, while Monica Varallo (82 kg) placed 8th.   Jenn Nguyen placed fourth after losing a close 3 round match versus Jasmine Slinn (Regina) in a highly competitive 51 kg division. 

Larissa D’Alleva won the silver medal in the 63 kg division.  Teammates, Brianne Barry (55 kg) also won silver, while Liz Sera (59 kg) took bronze
