Harry Geris Memorial Wrestling Duals, Nov 19, 2011

The “Harry Geris duals” will be hosted at Alumni Hall, Saturday Nov 19 and will feature top university women’s teams at Western’s first women’s dual meet tournament.

The event is named after Harry Geris, a London wrestling “icon” who was a past coach with the university and London-Western program.

The following teams will compete in a two-pool round robin tournament format with a cross-over draw:   Western, McMaster, Brock, Simon Fraser, Alberta, and U.S.A. teams, Missouri Valley, Lindenwood, and King College.

About Harry Geris:

Harry Geris coached with the Western mustangs and its affiliated club, the London-Western Wrestling Club when he passed away suddenly on April 24, 2008.  He died of heart failure while moving mats for an elementary school tournament.  Harry was a 3-time Olympian for Canada and was inducted into Wrestling Canada’s Hall of Fame and the USA Junior College Hall of Fame.  Harry was a NCAA All-American while at Oklahoma State University in the early 70’s.  He was involved in all capacities in the sport of wrestling – as an athlete, official, coach, parent, administrator, and volunteer.
