Takahashi wins Silver Medal at the Commonwealth Games

Current Western wrestling assistant coach Steven Takahashi competed at the Commonwealth Games on April 12th in Gold Coast Australia and won the silver medal in the 57kg division. Steven posted a record of 2 wins and 1 lost, his lost coming in the gold medal match against Rahul Aware of India by a score of 15-7.  In his opening match Takahashi beat his South African opponent 6-1. In an exciting semifinal match Steven was down 9-6 but was able put Ebikewenimo Welson of Nigeria on his back and get the pin. Steven’s silver medal matches the silver that his father, and longtime Western coach, Ray won in Brisbane Australia at the 1982 Commonwealth Games.
